Working While In School

While quarantine was a bust throughout summer it finally came to an end. School started up and it felt as if it never stopped. Some got the choice to go back and some could decide to go online. Although I picked online I am regretting that decision deeply.

I thought I could handle working 30 plus hours a week with school on top of that because I did it easily at the end of the school year last year. When I decided to get a job, I wanted to save up for my future and for college. With the rate I am going with school right now who knows if I will make it to graduation.

I made the decision to cut half of my hours at work and start focusing my attention on school. Although it is a process I hope I am getting to where I need to be. I also recognize that I need to be in school, to speak to my teachers to hear them teaching me. Learning by yourself at home is a challenge. Which obviously I can not handle.

Many students through high school work after school and when they should be studying for a test the next day they are at work. I really feel like teachers do not see through their students besides them sitting at their desk in their classroom. To have an understanding of a student and what their life is outside of High School will sometimes WOW you. It will make you understand why they are not turning their stuff in on time. Family, Friends, or Grandparents pass away and the teen is in a slump. Not doing their work or doing it just when they feel like they're motivated. Although we should be getting school work done and school is important. Outside of school in our own individual lives is important too.

This is where students are receiving anxiety. There is so much going around them they have never experienced it before. Their mind doesn’t process how to handle these situations and lifestyles.

Although this is called growing up, teachers should be patient and understanding of the fact there's a life out of school. Try to really get to know your students and I am not meaning by their favorite color or movie. Know them and Understand them. A good relationship with a student and teacher is a good feeling and everything can work out.
