Wild Fires Rage

2020 Wildfires are starting to take over all over the United States. California, Oregon, and Washington. The California wildfire is over 3.2 million acres taking up half of California. The Oregon fire has taken up over 1 million acres of the state. Washington has lost over 626,000 acres. Many people have had to evacuate their homes. California Citizens are trapped in their homes because first they were quarantined for almost 4 months and then they were all suggested to stay in their homes due to all the ash and debris in the air. Wildfires are a big thing in 2020 that have a huge debate on how they have started. Many people are split with how they think such a thing has had an enormous outbreak. This has been the year that the most and worst wildfires have happened.

California has been affected the most through all of the wildfires that have taken place all over their state. This past Monday 16,000 firefighters were battling over 28 major fires all across the state. In the last month, they have had a total amount of 471,185 wildfires. The ash that has been scattered all over is causing a lot of breathing problems. Mixing all of this in with COVID-19 makes things a lot harder. These wildfires might force a potential power outage for a while for thousands of people in California. 24 deaths have happened just because of all of the wildfires going on. Helicopters have been dropping water all over these fires but due to the 40mph winds, it isn’t helping anything at all. The post offices have all been mostly shut down due to the fact nobody can travel. Twelve locations have been shut down across the state. Some think that the wildfire started due to people not taking care of the land and state. Others tend to think this started because of humans: Car accidents or just campfires going bad.

In Washington, fires spread rapidly amid howling, dry winds. More than 600,000 acres — the largest burned area in state history since 2015′s historic season — have burned inactive fires this week alone, Gov. Jay Inslee said Friday. Washington has been having small and occasional wildfires since March 2020. Some of the biggest around the start of Labor day. August 19th the governor of Washington declared a state of emergency for all of Washington. On September 7th a historic fire event over 330,00 acres was burned. In less than 24 hours they had 80 fires going throughout Washington. Fires spread all across the state into Malden in western Washington which left it mostly destroyed. These fires have shut down many state routes making it harder for anyone to evacuate quickly if needed. Air quality quickly started to go down leaving the whole state with horrible breathing conditions. Temperatures have started going up leaving everything to dry out and leave some without vegetation. All the stuff they would’ve done to fight all the fires have completely changed due to the climate conditions. The reasoning behind the fire starting was because trees have fallen on power lines causing many to lose power and started a small fire that was not treated fast enough that led to more trees falling just adding to the fire.

Oregon wildfires started on August 5th and are still burning. As of this past weekend, over 1 million acres have been burned and over 1,000 homes have been destroyed. 33 people have fled the state due to them having a great chance of them getting stuck if they didn’t evacuate soon. A 1-year-old boy died and his parents were severely burned while fleeing the Cold Springs Fire in Okanogan County. Their abandoned and wrecked car was found Tuesday afternoon and had been burnt, according to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday morning, search-and-rescue crews found the family along the riverbank of the Columbia River. The man, 31, and woman, 26, had third-degree burns and their son was dead. The family is from Renton, according to the Sheriff's Office. The man and woman were taken to Three Rivers Hospital in Brewster and then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The man arrived at the hospital's emergency department around 1:30 p.m., and the woman arrived around 2:15 p.m. They were in critical condition at the hospital Wednesday evening, according to spokeswoman Susan Gregg. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide details on the boy’s cause of death. The Cold Springs Fire, south of Omak, has burned 163,000 acres and its fire behavior remains extreme.

As shown, Wildfires can easily be started and spread quickly. Many states and people have lost a lot of their prized possessions and buildings and or homes. Due to fires everyone needs to be cautious of what they are using and doing and if something goes wrong. Hurry and call 911 because thinking you can put it out yourself won’t always work. Trying to put it out yourself could lead to you or someone else getting hurt. Please be cautious of your surroundings.
