Teacher in China Sentenced to Death for Poisoning Schoolchildren
A Chinese court sentenced a kindergarten teacher to death for poisoning more than 20 students, killing one. The Jiaozuo Intermediate People’s Court, located in Jiaozuo, Hanem Province, sentenced the teacher named Wang Yun to death and removed her political rights. The plaintiffs of the civil lawsuit will both see compensation personally from the headmaster of the school as well as Yun.
According to the Global Times and the court itself, this is not the first despicable act Yun has committed against children, but another among a list of several incidents. The People’s Court said Yun had put nitrate in the food of another teacher’s students’ porridge in March of 2019. Wang also put nitrate in a cup of tea her husband was drinking after an argument, and her husband Feng, spent the night in the hospital with minor injuries.
Nitrate is a strong and deadly chemical, causing severe damage to the liver and kidney.
The court is firm in its belief that Weng knew precisely what nitrate does to the body, and says “she deliberately tried to conceal her crime, which led to a public health safety incident that seriously worried local people.”
Several parents have reported a similar story: receiving a phone call from the school, and when the parent arrives to pick up their student, the parents saw several other students severely ill and immobile.
Wang Yun will be sentenced via injection, and while China will not officially release annual execution numbers, many activist groups believe it to be in the high thousands.
