Ohio Governor Under Fire
Tuesday, August 25th, Ohio Governor Mike Dewine was brought Ten Articles Of Impeachment towards him by Ohio republican representative John Becker. The Ten Articles of Impeachment were brought up over how Dewine handled the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ten Articles explain that Dewine has violated both the Ohio Constitution and the United States Constitution. State Representative Becker states on his website “Living in fear, many have turned to drugs and yes, even suicide, to end or tolerate the unbearable pain inflicted by the governor upon their livelihoods, and the damage caused by his unraveling of the fabric of Ohio. It is long past time to put an end to government gone wild” showing his readers just how much he believes Governor Dewine is the wrong person for the job. Becker goes into how he has heard different Ohioans beg for his help as he says “I kept holding out hope that we wouldn’t get to this place. For months and months, I’ve been hearing the cries of my constituents and of suffering people from every corner of Ohio. They keep screaming, “DO SOMETHING!”
Becker Running For Governor
Interestingly, John Becker is also running for governor in the upcoming election most likely against a democratic candidate. Right now Mike Dewine is the number one Republican candidate who could be getting in the way of John Becker. Citizens of Ohio are unhappy with all of the new mandated Covid-19 protocols including mandated masks, different regulations on different businesses. It becomes apparent that many don't agree with Becker because of him also running for Governor.
How One Local Ohioan Feels
Local government teacher and historian, Tiana Barnes, has commented on their view of the recent actions taken by Mike Dewine and his decisions on how to handle Corona. After being asked about how she feels on Dewine’s proactive approach to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mrs. Barnes has said in an interview that she believes “He (Dewine) was one of the first governors to take corona seriously” She also made it clear that she was happy with how Dewine jumped right into taking action to protect the people from the virus. She states that “Dewine based (mandated closing) off of data from pandemics in this country before, I thought that was really great, as a historian, because this has happened before” After being asked if Gov. Dewine was trying to help or abuse his power, Tiana states that “He (Gov. Dewine) truly has been trying to do what he sees as best” Without bringing a strong political view into her statements, she agreed that Dewine was doing what he thought was best with the information he had.
Conclusion
With the stress and pressure of COVID 19, no matter what side you agree or disagree with, both parties feel strongly that a solution needs to happen. Gov. DeWine and opposing political parties can agree on one thing, protect the American people without taking away their rights or freedom. No matter what side you take, there is no right or wrong answer to the novel coronavirus.
