Masking up During a Pandemic
When you think of traveling, you dream of a grand adventure. When you think of going somewhere new, you think of traveling. However not in 2020. this year traveling has changed drastically. Some procedures such as wearing a mask, standing 6 feet apart, and even avoiding touching your face have to happen if you’re wanting to travel. Some rules with this subject have gone way too far and have created upset customers and parents. One thing that has been the most hated on if why should little kids wear masks on a plane?
A personal experience of mine had to do with my little cousin. My aunt and her two young children were about to board their second flight while moving to Ohio but were stopped. The two Women who stopped them said that they wouldn’t be boarding their next flight. The two women told them that they were reported for their two year old not wearing a mask or face covering. Of course, this was shocking because how are you going to make a young child wear a mask? My family did eventually make it on the next flight but I think it extremely disrespectful to kick someone off a flight for that reasoning.
Taking off your mask is another issue. The only time you’re allowed to take off your mask on a flight is while your eating. What happens if you just take off your mask? Many people say they will give you a warning and tell you that you must keep it on. If you refuse they can’t just throw you off the plane. What happens if you have a health condition? They prefer you don’t travel by aircraft but, if you do you will be forced to wear a mask, and there’s no way around it. It is recommended not to fly with a medical condition because it can make you at higher risk for COVID 19.
In my own opinion, I think that you should have to wear a mask unless you are 6 years old or younger or have a severe medical condition. It’s hard to make a little kid keep a mask on for a long or even short flight. No one should be yelled at or harassed for not making your kid wear a mask. If you try to make a young kid wear a mask they will most likely mess with it and even take it off. It’s unfair for an adult to have to hold a mask on their child’s face even if they’re refusing to wear a mask. Flight attendants should mind there own business and not tell you you’re a “bad mom” for not making your kid wear a mask. If you don’t want your kid to wear a mask then they shouldn’t have to wear one, and you shouldn’t be to blame for it. No one is a bad parent if they don’t make their kids wear a mask. You know your child and you know how they will react in certain situations.
The purpose of my story is to show how different people act while traveling during a pandemic. Most people don’t always ask politely and have a bad attitude towards others when it comes to mask-wearing and social distancing in public. I hope that by the end of this pandemic people learn to respect people’s decisions with their safety.
