Homecoming 2020

Here we are again, the leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and fall is just beginning. Fall is the season people get excited for; the start of a school year, football season, and many fall traditions like homecoming. Due to Covid-19 most of these activities are getting cancelled or are happening but in moderation of attendance of the people. Sadly, the homecoming dance is one of those things that won’t be happening this year. Homecoming court is still going to take action but nothing will be the same. Sigh.

Typically homecoming is the first weekend of October. It’s a time for everyone to get all dressed up, go out to dinner, take lots of pictures, and come back to the school and dance the night away with all your friends. Also the week of homecoming we’d have a spirit week at school to engage the excitement. Following that week there’s a home football game Friday night called the “homecoming game” and that’s when homecoming king and queen get announced in front of everyone. As a senior watching these traditions take place in my past years it’s always been something I’ve been looking forward to. Other big school activities that are getting cancelled are pep rallies, talent shows, and possibly prom and graduation. Having an event like this being taken away isn’t only sad for the class of 2021 but it’s sad for every class. Although homecoming was officially cancelled there’s no talk about a future activity the school could make up for this cancelation.

As a senior in these hard times it’s very unhopeful to think any activity could be rescheduled because of all the cancelations. Having so many doubts brings me to try and look at the bright side in all this darkness. Any idea that takes place from here on out would only take place if Covid-19 starts to dwindle away. For instance, a winter “formal” or what we could call our “homecoming” could take place from any time period starting in November through January. If Covid-19 is still taking place during these times then there’s not much rescheduling that can be done.

Although these times are tuff and we’re unhappy with how things are turning out this will be the most memorable time. 2020-2021 will go down in history and will be a historic event in the future and we’re able to speak on that topic because we’re all going through it. Having a positive outlook on the future will only have positive outcomes.
