Detectives Shot and Killed in Cleveland
On September 3rd, 2020, breaking news struck around Cleveland and the rest of Ohio. 53 year old detective, James Skernivitz, was shot and killed in the line of duty. Skernivitz was pronounced dead at 10:30pm on Thursday. Along with detective Skernivitz, 50 year old informant Scott Dingess was also killed. They both were amazing at their job and will be truly missed by everyone. The news has been heart wrenching to everyone. No one wants to hear that anyone, especially a cop, has been killed.
Three teens have been arrested and charged for his wrongful death. 18 year old David McDaniel was charged with aggravated murder, 17 year old Kevin Robinson and the 15 year old (Who’s name hasnt been released to press) were both charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, along with felonious assault. 18 year old David McDaniel has been set with a 3 million dollar bond and his court hearing has been set for September 16th 2020. The 17 year old Kevin Robinson has pleaded not guilty even though he was identified on camera. Surveillance caught the shooting and robbery of detective Skernivitz. The video identified three figures matching the three teens in custody. The 15 year old boy turned himself into the police on Tuesday.
The public won’t know much more about the case until after the hearings that will be held in the near future. The hope is that the justice system does not fail and can charge the correct people, so justice will be served for both of those detectives who lost their lives. The families of both detectives deserve closure and peace.
There was also yet another Cleveland detective's death on that dreadful Thursday. 39 year old Nicholas Sabo died from a self inflicted gunshot. Investigators are still trying to find out if detective Sabo’s “suicide” is connected to the other two officers death. The department has suffered a tremendous loss and so has the community. The department lost three amazing detectives and the community lost three great protectors. They will forever be remembered in our hearts and will live on in the memories of those who knew them. The families and community can only hope that they have caught those responsible and that they will be held accountable.
