The Last Chapter: Missing

Never did kids expect to be pulled out of school, in thought of only being out for two weeks, but now possibly being out for the rest of the year. The thought of losing the last whole 9 weeks of the 2020 school year is terrifying, especially for the seniors who will never get this time back.

COVID-19 started it’s breakout through China then started going through Europe. With precautions, America was preparing for the worst to come, knowing it was going to make it here eventually. Without a doubt it did and within the matter of a week restaurants were closed, people lost their jobs, schools shut down, and the world was ordered to stay home. With these precautions America is protecting lots of loved ones that could really be affected by this virus. On the other hand kids, especially in high school, are being torn to pieces about losing “the best time of their lives.”

Senior year is supposed to be the best year ever, due to it being the last year of high school. Everyone talks about the “lasts” during your senior year. For example, last Homecoming, sporting events and prom. Sadly this year was cut short due to COVID-19. This virus hasn’t only affected the seniors in high school but also the students in below grade levels. Freshman lost their first year of high school. Sophomores are really stuck in the middle and aren’t too affected. Juniors are missing lots of important classes for graduation. Also for Licking Valley’s Juniors ACT testing was a mess up and some kids are now going without these assessments until they can be rescheduled or excused.

In the reality of this world-wide pandemic, school should be the least of everyone's worries...right? Adults are calling kids selfish and stubborn to care about losing prom and spring sports but in reality this time of life is huge. It’s a huge part of us and missing it is devastating. School is the life us teens are living at the moment and stating that this is all disappointing doesn’t mean we aren’t worried or concerned for the world.
