Our Faceless Enemy
Life, as we know, is completely different than anything one person has ever experienced both in his or her lifetime. Our Great Grandparents experienced the hardships of World War II, our Grandparents have experienced the quick awakening of the Vietnam War, and our parents have seen our beloved country attacked on 9/11. Again fear is sweeping the world; never have we had an enemy that is faceless, an enemy that can not be categorized based on ethnicity or background. For the first time in history, our textbooks can’t predict the outcome, and our teachers can’t demonstrate what’s happening in our world. For the first time, politics are not in the middle of the attack itself. For the first time in a long time, both sides of the spectrum, both republicans and democrats are fighting together, not against one another. This attack is something every person, Hispanics, African Americans, Asians, and Caucasians can all agree that needs to be defeated, it alone is the enemy not each other. We are coming together as one nation, as one world, to conquer our enemy that hides within the same air that we all breathe, that we all need.
As much negativity as this evil brings to our lives, every morning when our eyes open the sky stills wakes up, the sun still shines and the rain still falls. This evil has taken much away from all of us, maybe it’s an income, or an education, something we are all missing, our friends, and all the opportunities we normally take for granted. The option to gather together, as friends or as family, and in fellowship, this darkness is taking away from our everyday joys; yet Spring is still awakening. God is still blessing the earth with the early golden flowers that are blooming, the sepia-toned sparrows hidden in the trees singing with passion in their existence. The warm weather that is beginning to linger in the wind with a hint of sunshine that applies itself beneath our skin. Tomorrow is still going to come, the world and our lives may seem as if it is on pause, however, the earth itself is not. The earth is still spinning on its axis, still existing in love and war. Yeah, life is pretty crazy right now but we need to find the positives that blur out the negatives. I grasp onto the family game nights that have been reborn again into our household. A time without distraction, a time of presence of the moment. The laughs and the sass that create an atmosphere of love. We gain the ability to block all negatives from the day and create forever moments that we will look back on in the near future. Now is the time to grow as a family, and to grow as a person.
