The Attack of the Zodiacs
♈♐♍♋♌♑
As a young adult, I find myself taking my day to day life into consideration. I find myself saying “everything happens for a reason,” and sure enough I connect these reasons back to my Zodiac sign. The Zodiacs were derived from at least two different pre-greek traditions. The animal associated constellations were developed in 3200-500 BC in Mesopotamia. Recently, I downloaded the app called “Co -- Star” on my phone. The app includes putting in the information of your birthdate, time, and location. After you put in all the information, you are given your Sun sign, Rising sign, and your Moon sign. Mine for example is: Sun- Aries, Rising- Cancer, Moon- Aquarius. Once you get to this screen, you are automatically sent to another screen that has your daily chart.
In ways, Astrology seems scientific, it uses scientific tools such as charts like the one shown above. Astrology is also based on the natural world, meaning the sun, moon, planets and constellations all have influence over everyday events. We (as in this generation) are so into Astrology because it is so relatable. In 2018, 42% of the population believes in Astrology. The Zodiac signs can be categorized into many different categories to see what is relatable to them in daily life. According the The Atlantic, astrology is perfectly suited for the internet age. Astrology really is not related to science, but more related to its own system of logic. Astrology simply provides emphasis on personalities, life cycles, and relationship patterns.
In times of need, usually stress induced times, people turn to astrology to explain what may be going wrong in their life. In the article by The Atlantic, it states that this generation of kids have been the most stressed. The generations stress has gone up since the year 2010, which to other generations may seem completely unreasonable. What astrology does is gives people comfort in times of need. If it helps comfort someone, then why should it be frowned upon.
I want to give you an example of what the app would look like on a daily basis. Each day, there is a new message for you to read. Below, I have inserted what my chart looks like on May 1, 2019. What is pictured is my charisma, self-respect, work stress, and how I can be uninspired this day.
Everyday, these change. There are reasonings behind everyday feelings and struggles, wins and loses. I find it interesting, I love to read what is happening logically behind the emotions I am feeling. Some people do not believe in the Zodiacs, but there are often times where I cannot find a better explanation than these above. The signs are taking over the internet, there are makeup collections based around them. I own one, it is by Colourpop and KathleenLights, and the palette depicts exactly the color of each sign. I love that the idea of the Zodiacs are being brought into the routine of daily life, and it just appalling to see how much they can really explain what is going on.
Sadly, this is end of my very last article of the year. What I would love to mention is if you have the opportunity, take Journalism! You meet amazing people, and you work on your writing skills that will take you through life. I would like to thank Mrs. Adkins for being so kind-hearted this year and giving amazing feedback on my writing to strengthen it. Senior year is coming to a close, and my passion for writing is stronger than ever! 🎓
