Press ‘F’ to Pay Respects
Sadness overtook gamers last month due to the depressing news that came out of Nintendo, the creators of the Mario and The Legend of Zelda franchises. Games that were once so happy and full of life seemingly seemed to lose their joy when news broke out about Nintendo. It was announced on February 21st, 2019, a tweet from @NintendoAmerica was posted saying “Nintendo fans, Reggie has a message for you,” while also providing a video clip showing Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
In the video, Fils-Aimé said in a statement: “Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude — for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community. As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humor, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘leveling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.” Gamers and fans of Nintendo games are left heart-broken at the loss but are understanding for what Reggie wants to do.
In a statement later released by Nintendo themselves saying that “Fils-Aime will leave the company on April 15. Doug Bowser, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo's American division, will take over as president.” Doug Bowser is the current Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America and will soon be Chief Operating Officer for Nintendo of America in April of 2019 when Reggie leaves. However, Bowser is also known from when he was first brought along onto Nintendo, where he released a picture of himself holding up a sign that says: “Thank you for the warm welcome,” with the Mario Brothers tied back to back in the background, a constant joke to gamers both lovers of Nintendo and non-lovers. Sadly and shockingly, Doug Bowser has not released any news or statements about his soon-to-be promotion for Nintendo of America.
Gamers and fans welcome Doug Bowser with open arms while waving goodbye to Reggie Fil-Aime and we can only hope the games get better from here when the new president is named after one of the most marketable video game villains of all time.
