New Apple Products
The future of phones has arrived. It has become normal for a new versions of iOS and Android devices to be revealed annually. Every fall the large tech companies come along and reveal their latest products. The time has come for Apple, arguably the most profitable and successful phone and tech company, to show the world what they have.
At 1PM E.S.T. on September 12, Apple went live to show off their next iPhones, iPad, and Apple Watch. The Apple Watch Series 4 has a 30% larger screen and is 4mm thinner than its predecessor. Another new feature is the ability for the device to take Electrocardiograms, which monitor your heart rate. This info will be stored in the built-in Health app. The new models of the iPhone, dubbed the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, are very similar to the iPhone X. The primary difference is the iPhone XS Max has a massive 6.5 inch OLED screen. The XR isn’t far behind at 6.1 inches, and the XS follows these with a 5.8 inch screen. For comparison, the 5.8 inch will be the same size as the 5.5 inch iPhone 6S+, but the screen takes up the entirety of the face of the phone, resulting in more screen in the same size phone.
Apple themselves have announced that the cameras now follow a dual-camera standard, enhancing lighting and allowing the user to make fine adjustments to the background of the image. This new technology makes the phone capable of capturing things like a basic selfie, drops of water flying through the sky, or a single strand of hair. One more major feature is drastically improved battery life. The iPhone XS and XR have an extra thirty minutes of battery life compared to last year’s iPhone X. The iPhone XS Max, however, has a mesmerizing hour and a half of battery life more than the iPhone X. That’s roughly twelve hours! The XS and XS Max start $1000, just like the original iPhone X, but the iPhone XR is at a reduced price of $750 for the 64gb edition, the price increasing if you want more storage space.
Before the conference, the names of these new devices were leaked by Apple themselves. Different information about the products was found hidden in the Apple website within its code. This info included the names and dimensions of said products, and was quickly discovered by dataminers (people who search for things within codes of websites, programs, or games to look for future content) before Apple caught on. The code was removed from the website, but the information was already found. An insider at Apple had also shown off prototype models for the new phones, showing the approximate sizes of the devices. There may have been multiple leaks about the phones, but Apple still managed to rock the world with their presentation.
The iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR are all up for preorder now, and both the XS and XS Max will be available in stores by the end of this week. The XR, however, is taking its time, not launching until the end of October. If you need to upgrade your phone, the time to do it is quickly approaching.
