Remembrance
Last year, I had the opportunity to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and I was one of the few people who earned that opportunity. Being there and laying the wreath was an experience I will never forget. The ceremony is sacred and to be a part of it was unbelievable. This opportunity was a way that I could personally respect those who had risked their lives for our country so I could have the freedoms that I have today. During the ceremony there was only a sound of a trumpet while we were laying the wreath. The ceremony was filled with silence around us, but it was pleasing to know that the silence was all out of respect for the people who have fought and died for us.
The Tomb is there to recognize those that have fought and defended our country. It’s to recognize those from the four major wars which include: World War I, World War II, the Korean, and the Vietnam Wars. The tomb has an unidentified soldier from each of these specific wars.
There are everyday people all around us that fight to defend our country. If they survive the war, they come back with the horrific memories following them for the rest of their life. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a place where people all around the world can pay their respects to those that have sacrificed their lives for us. This is to help us remember those who died defending our country, and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is open to everyone.
There is a great chance you probably know somebody who has fought for our country. I know that I would want somebody to respect my dead family members or friends and that’s what the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is all about. It’s all about recognizing those that have died trying to keep the freedoms that we have today.
