School Resource Officers

In the wake of the Parkland shooting, the Licking Valley school district has decided to hire a school resource officer to help increase security at the schools. This officer will be present across the elementary school, the middle school, and the high school.

A school resource officer is a law enforcement officer deployed to work with schools to help keep them safe from harm. This officer is to be a form of compromise with the concept of arming teachers, as it is strongly recommended that only trained professionals be armed on campus.

This resource officer, according to Mr. Weaver, is meant to do more than just guard the school, the officer is meant to form a connection with the students in order to become an integral part in the community, as opposed to just standing outside the door and apprehending any potential threat.

More word on when the resource officer is going to be recruited is unknown as of right now. All that is known is that Mr. Weaver had sent out an email stating that the school will be recruiting a resource officer in the near distant future as a security measure in the unfortunate case that Licking Valley school district is the target of a mass shooting.
