Are School Uniforms Bad?

I used to wear school uniforms when I went to Liberty Middle school, and I didn't like it very much because kids didn't really get to express themselves. The only way we were able to wear color was through scarves, shoes, and ties, so many kids wore different style of thoses things. Kids need to be able to express themselves through style of clothing and colors, not boring bland colors the school gives us to wear. We have voices and it should be our decision to choose whether or not if we want uniforms because we are the ones wearing them, not the staff members.

One of my friends who was a guy wore a scarf to school because he liked wearing them. Another friend who was a girl wore ties to school because she liked the look on her and the patterns. But one day my History teacher told us that guys can’t wear scarves and girls can’t wear ties. Me and my friends were so upset about it that we decided to protest. On that following Friday we got together and passed out ties to give to the girls and scarves to give to the guys. In the end, our protest won and the principal said it was ok. This experience is why I think we should be able to express ourselves through clothes rather than everyone wear the same boring thing.

I know many people get bullied because of the way they are dressed or look, but I think everybody still should have a way to express themselves through art in their clothes. Boring plain polo shirts and khaki pants can bore students and cause them not to pay any attention on school, but rather to what they are wearing because they don’t feel comfortable wearing it or they think other people look better in the uniform. If students are able to wear their own clothes and style, they can show their personalities through it. Art is out there for a reason, not for plain boring uniforms that everybody wears. When you see people wearing the same thing as you everywhere, it will bore you, just like if everyone had the same face or the same personality, you would feel bored and just plain. Art is for expressing yourself and I think it's a good way to express yourself thought the style and looks of your clothes that you wear.

It's important for kids to be able to wear what they want, to be able to maintain a self-image of themselves because uniforms put kids down, making them feel like the reason they made school uniforms was because they didn't look good or something. Students also don’t get as motivated as they would when it comes to wearing what they want to. Motivation comes with a idea from art or a style, but when kids were uniforms it gives lack of motivation do to the bland boring colors.

Did you know school uniforms actually break the First Amendment? It's true, the First Amendment gives us a right to speak our free minds and express ourselves through whatever art or region we please to do. But with school uniforms we don’t get to wear the clothes we want to wear to express ourselves through art or whatever region we have. Therefore it breaks the First Amendment. They want us to know our history in schools, so why are they denying our First Amendment rights? They should be the ones looking in the history textbooks.

Many people think that if students wear the clothes they decide to wear people start to get bullied but, the truth is if students wear uniforms it attracts more bullies than if you wore your own clothes. Yes that's right, more bullying occurs to students who wear uniforms because they still find anyway possible to single out that one person they are bullying. So even if you want to reduce school bullying changing regular clothes to school uniforms, it won’t help stop bullying. Violence occurs during school hours due to kids wearing uniforms most of the time, and kids are sent to hospitals because of it.This is why kids should be able to wear whatever school appropriate clothes they want because kids should have a right to wear what they want to school, and wearing what you want will increase you self-image and allow you to focus in school, rather than bored and get hurt, so school uniforms should not happen in schools.
