All on the Line

It’s 7:20 pm on a Friday night and the Licking Valley boys are getting ready to play the undefeated Granville Aces. The stakes are high. If Licking Valley gets the win, they’ll have a shot at first place in the LCL and beat rival Granville. As a player sitting in the locker room and listening to our coach speak, I couldn’t help but want our game to start just then, the feeling is unbelievable.

Licking Valley boys basketball will be playing Centennial for in the first round of the playoffs. The Licking Valley boys are ranked 14 in the D2 bracket and Centennial is ranked 11th. The Licking Valley boys are now feeling the same way about Centennial as we did against Granville. All the players are ready to get started now with the game. Licking Valley boys’ basketball hasn’t won a playoff game in a very long time.

The Licking Valley boys’ game is February 26 at 7 pm. Since Centennial has a higher rank in the bracket, it’s at Centennial High school. Centennial is a great team and will be hard for the Panthers to beat, but according to Coach Pethtel “As long as we give effort and play as a team anything is possible.” The Panthers finished the season 10-12, an improvement from last year’s record, and Centennial finished 12-10 on the season. The Panthers have a lot of work to put in before Centennial and hopefully will bring back a postseason win for the first time in a while.
