Everything You Need to Know About The 90th Oscars
With over eight decades of this annual award show and millions of watchers each year, the 90th Oscars is fast approaching. But before the most popular film award show airs on March 4th, here are some things you might want to know about this year’s Oscars.
What are The Oscars?
The Oscars or The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is an award show dedicated to honor and commend the greatest in filmmaking from the past year. This will be the 90th Oscars.
Who’s Hosting This Year?
Despite the major mix-up from last year, where the wrong movie was announced for Best Picture, Jimmy Kimmel will be back to host the 90th Oscars. He’s made light of the situation since then, and has joked that, “If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!”
When are The Oscars?
The Oscars will be held March 4th, 2018 at 8:00pm. The start time of the official red carpet, however, will start at 7:00pm.
How Does The Oscars Voting Work?
After a film is nominated and meets the criteria of at least 40 minutes long (feature length) and shown three times a day for at least a week in a Los Angeles theatre, the film will be watched by 6000 voting members. The voting members are chosen by the Academy Committee and its Board of Governors. The base requirements to become a member include having at least two screen credits for writers, producers, and directors; having credited roles in at least three films or having previous Oscar nominations for actors; and having a set number of active years in their fields for art directors or visual effects supervisors. After these qualifications are met, it’s up to the Academy Committee for admission.
Who Had the Most Nominations?
With thirteen nominations, The Shape of Water leads, with Dunkirk following at eight nominations.
