DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is mentioned in the news and by teachers, but what is it really?
Immigrants are being sent back to the country they were born in, even if they don’t understand the culture and their language. This was ordered by President Donald Trump, but the rest of the government is having difficulties coming up with whether or not they want this to happen with the dreamers.
Ex-president Barack Obama was the one who made the act called DACA to protect these immigrants because they were brought here when they were kids and grew up here, so they did not want to send them back to a place they have no idea how to cope with, so that’s why Obama made the act DACA.
Dreamers can’t apply for a Citizenship because it is a long process and they need a green card and live in the U.S for about 5 years and then they can apply for one, but dreamers have only been in the U.S for roughly 30 months and they can’t apply for one. Also Dreamers were named dreamers after the so-called dream act.
This matter to Valley students because it's something that is going on in the real world and could affect people's lives today. Also this could be a good topic to discuss in history classes to understand more about why Trump is wanting to repeal this act.
