Local Newark Shooting

The Newark Advocate reports that on Saturday, January 20, 2018, a local Newark shooting involving David Barcus, Tyler Ocasio, Dustin Lehoe and Jaden Osborn took place on Cherry Street in Newark, Ohio. The main objectives were prescription pills and money.

The suspects allegedly involved in this were about the same age as Licking Valley students, or just a little older. This shows Valley students that these types of events do not just happen in movies and that their neighbors might throw away their whole lives for maybe a little bit of money or even a temporary high off of prescription drugs.

The Advocate reports Newark police plans to charge the suspects due to the shooting of David Barcus and them all being involved. During the attempt to robbery they had held an unnamed woman at gunpoint. She did not end up with any injuries.

Under police questioning, Tyler Ocasio tried accused the victims of shooting towards them as they ran into the woods; detectives looking further into the investigation determined Ocasio’s wound came from a BB gun.

This matters to Valley students because some of them might have been related to the families involved and/or might have encountered them at least once in their lives. This is also important for the student body to become aware about because when they think of major things going on in the world today, they never expect it to have been in their hometown or as close to Hanover as this was.
