Valley for the Cause

On Tuesday, October 3rd, Licking Valley High School volleyball team will be hosting a Valley for the Cause game against one of their biggest rivals, Granville High School. The freshman team will start at 4:30p.m., JV will follow, and the Varsity will start at 7 p.m.

Once a year, the volleyball team works hard to put on a charitable event to raise money for an important cause. Formerly, it was known as Volley for the Cure, with proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen foundation. The players have chosen local people to sponsor. Now all the money goes directly to local people struggling with health issues instead of a big corporation; the recipients get every penny of the proceeds. This year, the volleyball players would like to raise more money than ever before. At the game, a silent auction will take place with many themed baskets put together by specific groups of girls from the team for a competition to bring in the most money. There will be t-shirts that can be purchased and the players will also be throwing out shirts to the crowd. There will be a bake sale of all kinds of goodies.

The team is are supporting four people for Valley for the Cause. Kathleen Soller is seventeen years old with primary mediastinal large B cell lymphoma. She lives in Indiana but since she is a family member to Zoie and Autumn Chesterson, players on the team, they have chosen to support her. Mary Reiss is a two-time breast cancer fighter from Frazeysburg. Maci Whisner is a 18 months old from Utica with many cardiac diagnoses and Mowat-Wilson syndrome, which causes her cardiac defects, GI and vision issues, and an intellectual disability. Bryce Ford Music is four years old from Heath with a brain tumor.
