What to Watch on Netflix

Have you ever been scrolling through the categories of Netflix, trying to find the perfect movie or show to watch, but not able to find anything? Because I definitely have… many times.

Sometimes, you just don’t know what you want to watch. Horror? Comedy? Thriller? Fantasy? Sci-fi? Mystery? The options are endless, and yet you still can’t find the perfect movie. Well, here’s the solution to your problem, a movie/tv show review list, consisting of three shows, to give you some suggestions and show you some of the the best Netflix has to offer.

Sense8

TV Show: Sadly, while amazing as this show is, the show’s final 2-hour episode is coming out next year, and will be the last of the series. This Netflix show has only two seasons, each episode an hour long, including an extra 2-hour Christmas special. This science fiction drama was made by the Wachowski's, best known for directing groundbreaking movies like The Matrix, but also known for directing the mess that was Jupiter’s Ascending. But don’t fear, Sense 8 has been nominated for two Emmy awards, and has a rating of 8.4/10 on IMDb. The main plot is focused eight different people from all around the world, including places like Russia and India, suddenly feeling an odd connection to each other, even s

ometimes switching places and into the shoes of each other. And, yes, this show does have a mature rating that should be heeded, but, overall, it is an amazing show that deserves the utmost recognition. TV-MA

The Imitation Game

Thriller: This World War II era film is both the witty and intelligent thriller you’ve been looking for. Starring the Academy nominated actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, this movie has been nominated for a number of accolades, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It is based off the true story of the life of Alan Turing, an English computer scientist best known for creating the first ever computer during WWII, to break the Nazi code, Enigma. This movie shows great insight into the “behind-the-scenes” of WWII, and does a great job of representing the life of Alan Turing, a man whose true work was unknown to the outside world until recently, when Turing was pardoned for a crime that wouldn’t be considered a crime today. PG-13

Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl

Action/Adventure: Rated 8/10 on IMDb, and with four sequels, Pirates of the Caribbean is an action/adventure/fantasy movie full of historical references and notorious actors. The movie is centered around a pirate known as Captain Jack Sparrow and many his adventures full of mermaids, krakens, immortal beings, infamous myths, and, of course, pirates of the Caribbean. With lead actors Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom, this movie has achieved 11 nominations and one win with the academy awards, along with two nominations in the Golden Globe Awards. And while this movie is generally action/adventure, it also has components of both romance and comedy, making it a movie you can watch at any time. PG-13
